Planning for Possible School Closure
Dear Parents/Guardians and Caregivers,
As you are aware, confirmed cases of the coronavirus are increasing at a rapid rate in our immediate area. While there are no plans presently to close schools in the Goodman-Armstrong Creek School District we do ask that you consider preparing for that possibility at this time. Unlike a closure due to severe winter weather, a closing in response to the presence of COVID-19 will likely last for an extended period of time. We ask that you think about what that impact will be like on your family and what steps you will need to take to provide support for your children while they remain at home.
Our schools will receive the attention needed for deep cleaning to occur. Food service staff will be developing a plan for the availability of both breakfast and lunch for those families choosing to use this service. Teachers will be making preparations for the delivery of instruction virtually. This is likely to look different in each building for various grade levels and subject areas. It is important for you to be aware, however, that student attendance and participation remotely will be required and that the district will be taking attendance during the period of closure.
The district will use several communication channels to share information with you. Postings will be made to the GAC website and Facebook pages. Additionally, automated voice messages will be delivered to telephone numbers currently on file in the district. Should you receive a message from the school relative to the closure please listen to the entire message. We ask that you do not contact the district without doing so.
Communication to students will be made via Google Classroom. Students are aware of this and should be able to manage this communication tool for the completion of assignments and tasks from their teacher(s). There is also a parent communication feature linked to Google Classroom that will permit you to monitor student work and participation. We ask that you do so frequently and communicate with your child’s teacher(s) often should you have any questions.
Your support during these unprecedented times is very much appreciated. No one prefers the possibility of a school closure, but we hope you recognize the decision to do so is, for the time being, in everyone’s better interest.
